I woke up after a better warmer sleep. Thank god for my weird job because cat naps are fine. I packed up and head for the 35km dam (Afsluitdijk) only getting slightly lost. I was at the dam at about 8:30ish. I'd peddle and peddle and peddle. At the begining of the dam a man on the hiway beeped from the car and gave me a thumbs up. That was nice. I'd give myself a target on the horizon, a sign or structure, and peddle to that. Then have some water if I needed a break. Before I knew it, I was halfway. At the beginning of the dam I had noticed a locks type system to let water in but I kept peddling. Part of me was thinking that if I told my neighbour Kim she'd say 'my I'd like to have seen that'. The other side had locks too so I took a pic ;) no sheep on this dam but a couple monuments in the middle. I made it across the dam at about 10:30. I was happy. Tired but happy. I kept peddling, waiting to take a food (bread and some protein bar) break, until I was sure I was headed to Harlingen.
Once sure I was going in the right direction, I quickly found out that wind, even if not strong, sucks when its head on, on a granny bike (no gears) under Leann power! I passed through a cute town on my way and eventually, more tired though, was in Harlingen. I took my time through there. Just looking even though I was only at the outskirts of town.
I then had to make my way to Franeker. Again, picking a spot to bike to and enjoying the lack of wind. I told myself that the first grocery store I saw in Franeker I was stopping to pick up supper and a 6 pack! Found one. I only pissed off one person in Franeker :)
I kept going but very early on in the day I had messed up my route of google maps so I was going by my memory and had directions written down for when I got close. This meant I had to go a little out of the way but I made it to the cutest campsite ever. No one else is here and I had already planned on staying two nights. Because really, I may not be able to walk tomorrow!
I was going to camp one night and stay in a cute trailer the next night but the owner gave me the keys to the trailer just to see it and told me its €60 for one night but only €90 for two nights. I took the two. Heated trailer, stove fridge and a BED. And adorable. I want to build one but I'll need a wood stove for heat in Canada!
Its sooo cute here. There is a tiny café and he gave me a coffee (first one on the house) and there are goats and chickens and everything is cute.
I showered and ate (and drank beer) and now I'm blogging but you want to see pics.
OK
Leann
