Goodbye Slappeterp

Well I finally had to say goodbye to the cute pink trailer and its wonderful bed. But first you should see what I cooked up in the trailer for supper.
Pasta with some salami and yup, that's red wine in my cup!

So I packed up. And swept the trailer and headed out. I was fairly sure of where I was going at least for a little while. It one point I had to cross a hiway but there was an overpass for bikes. At first I thought oh crap because I remembered the stairs at the train station. But thankfully these bike grooves were a little wider and my bike wasn't slanted on such an awkward angle. You can really feel the weight of the packs though when your easing it down the ramp. Then it was through a little town and a couple small construction zones. At one point there was a guy a the bike path through the zone and he laughed at me peddling up the incline of the detour and said something in Dutch. I heard the word hill so I'm going to imagine he said something like 'the only hill in Holland!. I laughed too.

There was one tiny town and I really mean tiny. The towns have their name on them at the beginning (and here in Friesland it gets written in Dutch and their dialect) and at the end with a line through it. Well I think if it wasnt for a house in the way, you could see all the town signs on their 3 roads!

Before I knew it I was at Leeuwarden a bigger city. Google maps wanted me to go straight through the city and well my brain knew that meant more cars and lights and round abouts. So I made my own detour on the outskirts and did just fine. So I didn't piss anyone off in Leeuwarden! That would come later. I have to make one Dutch person cranky or I wouldn't be a tourist at all.

I kept biking making mostly good time, at which point I take my time.came apon a tiny town and stopped at their grocery store to pick up some food for later. It was coming out of that town that I pissed someone off. I was minding my own business just biking along the road. No real traffic since it was kinda the middle of no where. When i heard a car slowing down behind me because one was coming. Well when she passed she was not happy because had I been paying any attention, I would have seen a bike lane on the other side of the road. Oh well!

So then google maps bright me to a marina. I knew I was in the right place. Google said I was and I knew I was sooooo close. I was a little perplexed. Walked the bike around a corner to see if there was a trail but nope. And I don't think I was expected to swim or beg for a ride. Then all of a sudden a little ferry boat with a couple bikes on it came into the marina and I said might as well try that. I paid attention to see how much the others were paying and it seemed like €1 so at the very least I was going to get a cheap ferry ride. It brought me where I needed to go. :)

A few more kms and I was at the campsite. I set up the tent, showered, ate a sandwich and some sort of maybe potato salad thing and had a beer. Now I'm blogging but its such a nice day I might have to walk around a bit. This is a national park after all.
