The day started like most, with me in a dew covered field in my tent. Taylor had stayed with me for part of the night cuddled up by my shoulder. She mostly got annoyed if she was on the sleeping bad because I roll over so much! Thought the night she left again but was back in the morning to help me take down the tent and gone again without a tearful goodbye.
Groningen was only 25km away but I managed to get lost several times (once it was practically just a parking lot!). And one I was in the city I had to slow down and pay attention a lot. Eventually I made it to my couch surfers place. She is very nice and only recently came to the city as well so we got to wander around a lot.
After we went to the grocery store to grab something to make for lunch, we wandered the city. We weren't far when Anna said oh this looks like a nice street (and it indeed did) so we turned down the street. It wasnt long before she noticed sex toys in the window and then I saw the red lights and then we kinda noticed the houses had full length windows with the lady's in them. Mostly they were putting on make up and getting ready for work ;) It was a long street but it probably felt that way because we hoping to get back to a real street sooner! And then you turn a corner and it's the regular ol' street.
There were outdoor markets in the city centre and there were soooooooo many people. I don't think I was anywhere in Amsterdam that felt that packed with people. We wandered up and down streets. There is a tower in the centre (Martini tower) which you can see during most of you wandering. And yes, you guessed it, there is a canal (because they all must have to have a canal). The pancake ship was tied up in one of the canals. I laughed at how funny it would be to go in and order a burger and having the pancake ship people get disguised and say omg we sell pancakes. You want to burger ship! OK that amused me.
More wandering. Walked through a event part that had some guys giving a shaker show (the bartenders that can spin and flip the bottles and glasses) there were even 3 judges that scored their drinks and performance. Then I saw a building that looked like a space ship or giant egg in a nest. It turned out to be a movie theatre.
More wandering and back to the grocery store to pick up food for supper. Then we spent the night trying to fix Anna's computer (that a beverage may have spilled on) and talking about Italy (she's Italian) and Canada and the Netherlands and traveling and her PhD. And I got to sleep on an air mattress!
So day 2 will not start covered in dew! But I'll have to find out which campsite to head to soon.
Pics to follow soon. I think my phone is getting full!
